TITLE: Pathologist, Oculus-Delaware

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: A pathologist is an M.D. or D.O. who provides the analysis and examination
of human tissue and bone and bodily fluids for abnormalities, or evidence of disease. Pathologists diagnose
patients in clinical settings, as well as determine the cause of death in the deceased. Pathologists oversee
the processing and analysis of laboratory samples as well as the quality control and proficiency testing
results in order to support the reliability and credibility of the laboratory.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Provides Anatomic and Clinical pathology services at sites limited to Oculus-Delaware.
- Examines histologic and cytological specimens from tissues and fluids obtained from patients in
order to identify morphologic changes that represent the presence of diseases. When possible, the
pathologist may determine the etiology and clinical significance of the morphologic changes
present.
- Generates written pathology reports that describes their findings and renders a diagnosis.
- Performs autopsies to determine the nature and extent of disease, cause of death, and effects of
treatment.
- Develops proficiency with Oculus’ Digital Pathology platform.
- Acts as a consultant to other medical practitioners. Communicates pathologic findings, consults
on ordering and interpreting test results.
- Oversees the activities of the Beebe Healthcare Pathology Department and laboratories by serving
or supporting the Medical Director of Laboratories.
- Participates in quality assurance, peer review, risk management and utilization review programs as
required or needed by Oculus and/or other accrediting organizations.
- Promotes the operational and strategic initiatives of Beebe Healthcare by supporting the Medical Staff, Hospital Administration, and Laboratory Administration.
- Participates in Oculus’ system of governance by attending Quarterly Business Meetings (in-person or on-line) and by contributing to relevant committee work.
- Demonstrates a willingness to engage with the Oculus Business Development Team to explore local and regional business opportunities,
- Provides Anatomic and Clinical pathology services Monday through Friday. A minimum of one pathologist is also “on call” at night and on weekends and holidays. All Pathologists need to be available to travel if required for temporary reasons or for rotational staffing.
- Complies with Oculus’ code of conduct, policies, procedures, protocols, bylaws, orders, rules, regulations in addition to any institution at which the Pathologist performs services on behalf of Oculus.
- Obtains and maintains medical staff privileges at hospitals and facilities as required by the Medical Staff Bylaws.
- Attends professional activities consistent with the maintenance and improvement of pathologist professional skills, such as professional conventions, postgraduate seminars, performance improvement programs and participation in professional societies.
- Engages in professional and community activities and networking to promote and expand Oculus’ practice.
WORK EXPERENCE REQUIREMENT
- Satisfactory completion of an accredited Pathology residency program in the United States. Prefer
pathologists who have also completed a Pathology fellowship in a subspecialty certified by the
American Board of Pathology if such boards are offered.
- Prefer three (3) to five (5) years of Pathology work experience.
- Board Certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. Board Certification in a pathology
subspecialty is also preferred.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- M.D. or D.O. Degree, Board Certified in Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology.
- Valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine in Delaware.
