Job Title: Molecular Laboratory (Technical) Supervisor

Summary:
Under supervision, performs routine and complex analytic procedures, on blood and/or other body fluids or specimens, involving manual techniques or the use of laboratory instruments and information systems.
Responsibilities:
Core Responsibilities
- Molecular Bench technical expertise: DNA/RNA Extraction, library preparation;
Knowledge of NGS and PCR platforms and trouble shooting. Assay development to detect
somatic and germline variants.
- Analysis and interpretation of high complex data (ACMG/AMP Guidelines / Variant
interpretation).
- NextGen Sequencing (NGS)
- NGS data analysis
- Analysis and Interpretations Clinical Genomics data
- Single gene & amp; panel testing
- Tumor, Germline / somatic testing; Whole Genome testing
- Comprehending cross specialty clinical data

- Ability to recruit additional laboratory staff: Create and post job descriptions, conduct
interviews, and train laboratory staff. Maintain training logs for compliance

- Work collaboratively with CLIA lab director remotely; Administrative (CMO, CEO) and
Lab leadership globally
- Provide supervision and high-quality leadership to on-site laboratory technicians, organize
and lead meetings.
- Presentation skills (eg., Validation, administrative information, Gantt harts for executing
validation plans)
- Performs routine and complex analytic procedures, on blood and/or other body fluids or
specimens, involving manual techniques or the use of laboratory instruments and
information systems
- Performs routine and complex biological, chemical, cytological, hematological, histologic,
immunological, microscopic procedures on laboratory specimens, using manual or
automated techniques and information systems, for the purpose of diagnosing, preventing,
or treatment of disease
- The Medical Laboratory Scientist is qualified to perform duties described here, and, in a
given job situation may or may not perform all of the duties as actual duties as pertain to the
specific assignment
Additional Responsibilities
Applies knowledge, training, and independent clinical judgement to take action and/or
develop solutions. Collaborates with leadership staff to improve processes and resolve
problems, including:
- Evaluating instrument performance and quality control results to ensure the
accuracy and reliability of all analytic data prior to release
- Correlating results with other lab data and/or disease states
- Identification of technical, instrument, pharmacologic and/or physiologic causes of
unexpected test results
- Performs calibration, preventative maintenance, quality control, and troubleshooting
of laboratory equipment, instruments and/or laboratory information systems.
Following successful completion of competency testing may perform processing,
testing, and reporting without direct supervision
- Complies with established departmental and institutional policies and procedures,
including compliance, quality assessment and improvement, safety, environmental,
and infection control. Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
- Participates in various quality assessment and improvement activities including,
proficiency testing, gathering data for quality assurance monitors, developing and
adhering to safe work practices, participating in quality improvement committees,
and successfully completes regular competency assessments. Maintains the
laboratory and procedures in inspection ready condition.
Education: Minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required.
Additional Education Preferred:
- Doctoral Degree from an accredited college or university preferred, Master's degree with considerable experience may be considered in lieu.
Experience:
- Requires 6 months of experience in a medical laboratory setting. Coursework must align
with duties of the specific section Medical Laboratory discipline position and meet the
education Eligibility Routes for Medical Laboratory Scientist listed on the ASCP website at
(ascp.org); or possess a categorical scientist level certification as a BB, C, CG, CT, M, MB;
or has met the requirements for AAB and/or AMT certifications in Molecular Genetics
(Biology) and Cytogenetics / FISH
- Demonstrated technical proficiency and theoretical knowledge sufficient to perform
laboratory functions are required.
Certifications/Licensures:
- Certification at a technologist, or medical/clinical lab scientist level from a nationally
recognized agency, such as ASCP, AMT, ASM, AAB, AAB, ACS, or HEW is preferred.
