Faculty Position in Transfusion Medicine

The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at the University of Minnesota Medical School seeks a full-time ABP board certified/eligible clinical pathologist with expertise in transfusion medicine/blood banking. Academic rank, compensation and appointment type will be based on qualifications and experience. Candidates must have demonstrated ability in teaching and in scholarly productivity. Minimum requirements are an MD or equivalent degree (D.O., MBBS, etc.), eligibility for medical licensure in the State of Minnesota, completion of both an ACGME-accredited pathology residency training program and transfusion medicine/blood banking fellowship program and board certified or board eligible in CP or AP/CP and blood banking/transfusion medicine.
The successful candidate will join a team of experienced pathologists in the transfusion medicine division and will have a leadership role in the Blood Bank laboratory. The division supports highly complex clinical services across a spectrum of areas including the blood bank laboratory, special coagulation laboratory, apheresis center and cell therapy laboratory. Significant time will be spent as an attending on blood bank and apheresis service. Faculty in transfusion medicine/blood banking serve patients across the M Health Fairview system. Sign-out responsibilities, call, resident and fellow supervision and conferences are shared with other transfusion medicine/blood banking faculty within the division. Leadership opportunities in education may exist for qualified candidates.
Academic time will be used to pursue scholarly work in the candidate’s area of specialty/research expertise. Preferred candidates will be active in their national organizations and foster an academic environment for medical students, residents, fellows and faculty.
