Location: Mid-Atlantic Region, East Coast
The Department of Pathology at a major academic medical center invites applications for a full-time Clinical Pathology faculty position at the level of Associate Professor or Professor, to serve as Director of Transfusion Services.
This leadership role requires outstanding organizational and management skills, strong academic contributions, and an expansive view of the role of clinical pathology in patient care and hospital stewardship. The Director will oversee a high-volume transfusion service, direct a multidisciplinary team, and collaborate with nationally recognized clinical programs.
Direct the hospital’s transfusion service, overseeing ~40,000 transfusions annually
Provide medical consultation on transfusion-related issues across a diverse patient population
Support complex services, including trauma, oncology, transplant, sickle cell care, and multidisciplinary clinical trials
Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and promote efficiency in transfusion practices
Lead educational programs for residents, fellows, and medical students
Contribute to research and innovation in transfusion medicine, blood management, and clinical trials
Collaborate with institutional research centers, including programs focused on blood oxygen transport and health computing
Engage in hospital-wide and national service through committees and professional organizations
Required:
MD or equivalent, with subspecialty certification in Transfusion Medicine
Eligibility for state medical licensure(s)
Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills
Academic track record with success in teaching and scholarly publications
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Preferred:
Prior experience directing or co-directing a transfusion service
Evidence of scholarly productivity in transfusion medicine, clinical pathology, or related fields
External grant-funded research
